Virtual Reality in the Service of Interior Design

A new application from Decolabs and A+D offers a virtual representation of the space you want to decorate.

Virtual Reality in the Service of Interior Design

Decolabs has already put virtual reality technology to use, giving interior designers a more realistic picture of the space they are working on with the help of an iPad.

Taking this service a step further, the Polish retail store designers at A+D have developed a new application that lets them show clients their store design at realistic scale.

It is aimed at anyone who wants to open or renovate a retail store and would like a clear idea of how the space will look before starting on the interior design. The platform uses a projector to display the design at 1:1 scale, giving clients a virtual representation of the space right in front of them and the illusion of standing inside it. Clients can choose one of the existing concepts, or start from scratch and gradually add furniture, light fittings and other decorative objects to the space using an iPad.

The service allows designers to make small changes and fine-tune their designs, while also determining the exact dimensions of objects before any money has even been spent.

As with other virtual reality design platforms, A+D’s service saves the company’s clients time and money by allowing them to spot mistakes before they happen in the real world. Although it was created for retail store spaces, the service could be applied to any type of interior design.
