The Athens Concert Hall (Megaron Mousikis Athinon) and AGET Heracles, a member of the Lafarge Group, have announced their collaboration on GREAT – Greek Architectural Talent, a new initiative that aims to promote and showcase Greek architectural creativity.
GREAT 2013 – THEIR FIRST BUILDINGS
The first edition, on the theme of Their First Buildings, is a competition for undergraduate diploma theses and postgraduate projects by students of architecture schools in Greece and by Greek students at schools abroad. The projects must have been completed between 2008 and 2012. The competition is already under way, and entries are submitted online at www.great2013.com until 1 February 2013.
An international jury, made up of the architects Nikos Ktenas, Manuel Aires Mateus, José Selgas and Lucía Cano, will select the best projects, which will be exhibited as models at the Athens Concert Hall in May 2013.
The exhibition curator and coordinator of GREAT 2013 is the architect Memos Philippides, who notes: “This event highlights the tendency of young people to bypass convention and, within their schools, to attempt to design larger-scale projects. These subjects are perhaps their secret desires, projects in which they would like to specialize and which they expect to realize in the distant future.”
