The convention aims to be an important step towards recognition of the architectural lighting designer’s profession, strengthening the ties between lighting designers, end clients and the architectural community.
The world is ready to recognise “lighting design” as an established profession
Across Europe there is a widespread trend towards accepting the lighting designer as a recognised professional, while lighting design itself is gradually being seen as an integral part of the architectural design process. The Professional Lighting Designers’ Association (PLDA) has taken the initiative of inviting leading figures from the European lighting industry, as well as politicians with influence at European Union level, to a meeting ahead of the convention, in order to determine how the profession of “lighting designer” can be formally established.
Lighting industry associations appear to be aware of the importance of lighting designers in architectural projects, and have viewed the establishment of the profession favourably and given it their “consent”. Indeed, in face-to-face discussions with their representatives, the view has been expressed that the time has come to move the process forward. The Professional Lighting Designers’ Association is being “proactive” in bringing about the establishment of the lighting designer’s profession, and invites all of you to contribute to the process.
The 1st Professional Lighting Design Convention will be an extremely important step in this direction. But it is not the only reason to visit the exhibition. Suffice it to say that a global convention of this size devoted exclusively to lighting design has never been held before:
• 15 professional lighting designers’ associations are involved in the convention
• 12 universities have contributed to it
• 20 leading manufacturers from the international market are supporting it
• 1,000 lighting designers from around the world are expected to attend.
In addition, the convention will feature professional papers along 4 parallel tracks, one of which covers “lighting and health”, a subject that will concern us greatly in the future and will become a cornerstone for lighting designers.
The PLDC exhibition is already full!
The PLDC exhibition, which is part of the sponsorship package for companies that had expressed interest in supporting the convention, is already full. A small number of stands has been reserved for companies that will be joining shortly, and these places will be allocated very soon. The convention’s organising team is particularly pleased with the response to this product display, which, however, should not be mistaken for a trade fair, as it is simply a supporting feature of the 3-day convention.
There are, of course, some alternative sponsorship options, details of which you can find here (sponsoring)
