Alekos Fassianos is a Greek painter born in 1935. He studied violin at the Athens Conservatoire and, from 1956 to 1960, painting at the School of Fine Arts in the studio of Yannis Moralis. He studied ancient Greek vase painting and Byzantine iconography. With a scholarship from the French government in 1962–1964, he attended lithography classes at the Ecole des beaux-arts in Paris under Clairin and Dayez.
In 1966 he settled in Paris, and since 1974 he has lived and worked in both Paris and Athens. Since 1959, the year of his first solo show in Athens, he has held more than seventy solo exhibitions in Athens, Thessaloniki, Paris, Munich, Tokyo, Hamburg, Zurich, Milan, Beirut, Stockholm, London and elsewhere. He has repeatedly taken part in group exhibitions and well-known international events around the world.
Fassianos has also worked in printmaking, poster design and set design, collaborating mainly with the National Theatre of Athens. He has illustrated a number of books by well-known poets and writers, in Greece and abroad. He has also published texts of his own, in prose and poetry.
Four films about his work as a whole have been made for Greek and French television, and monographs on his artistic output are in circulation.
