Myran – Scandinavian Design presents an exhibition paying tribute to one of the most important architects of the 20th century. Alongside his highly significant architectural work, Arne Jacobsen showed enormous talent as a designer of furniture and everyday objects. The exhibition is an opportunity to present his work, his devotion to form, and the intelligence with which he incorporated technological advances into his designs. Whether he was designing large-scale architectural projects or functional objects such as clocks, lamps and bathroom fittings, his constant aim was to unite beauty and functionality.
As a result, many of the objects he designed for manufacturers such as Fritz Hansen, Stelton and Georg Jensen are today, 35 years after his death, among the most recognisable pieces of modern Scandinavian design. The exhibition presents the whole of Arne Jacobsen’s output through a selection of furniture and objects he designed himself, such as the legendary “Ant” chair (1952), the “Egg” and the “Swan”, as well as the Cylinda Line coffee service collection (1967). It also includes photographic and audiovisual material on his architectural work, which includes the Danish Embassy in London, Merton College in Oxford, the National Bank in Copenhagen and the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen.
Arne Jacobsen (1902-1971), Danish architect and designer. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and at the School of Architecture in Copenhagen. He was a professor at the Academy from 1956 to 1965.
