Across from the University of Tampa in Florida, a new space has opened that works as a restaurant, café and retail store.
This is Oxford Exchange, whose reputation has spread by word of mouth, both for its distinctive setting and style and for the quality of its products and services.
The Oxford Exchange building bears no resemblance to the stable that operated on the site in the early 20th century. Instead, every area, from the library to the restrooms, has its own distinct style and design, characterful and decidedly classy.
The high ceilings, striking floors, classic bookcases and atmospheric lighting are all carefully detailed and create an engaging ambience, aimed at encouraging a mood of socialising and collaboration among patrons.
Before it was used for Oxford Exchange, the building housed offices and shops. As part of its renovation into the busy restaurant it is today, the old façades were restored, the doors were returned to their original dimensions and the existing canopies were reinstated to bring out the building’s authentic character. The bricks from the walls of the original building that were demolished were reused, while in several places the original walls were kept to create contrasts with the more refined elements of the interior décor.
At the same time, a new wing has been added to the old building, which stands out as a deliberate architectural statement, along with an atrium that brings natural light into the main building.
