As soon as the weather warms up, the urge to be outdoors, to enjoy the sun, the sky and the scents of nature, soars.
Now imagine being able to drink your morning coffee, read the Sunday paper or surf the internet in a setting that satisfies exactly that need, without even leaving the comfort of your home…
And now bring your imagination down to earth, right onto… your balcony. However small it is and whatever its view, any balcony can be transformed into a little retreat for relaxation, a “window” onto nature.
Take a look at the before and after below, and you will see that it really can be done.

Let’s now look at a few tips that can help bring about such a transformation.
1. Use benches and cushions

2. Use screens or reed fencing to “fortify” your retreat and hide any “eyesores” in your balcony’s view

3. Strengthen the feeling of nature by using wood
Use wooden tiles. Crates. Wooden planters. Small wooden balcony furniture.

4. Use shelves and other clever solutions to make the most of vertical space and create your little garden

5. Make use of your balcony railings
With the special planters and flowerpots available on the market, you can turn your balcony railings into small gardens. Add colour by choosing pretty seasonal plants.

You can also use the railings as a support for shelves and small folding tables. That way, even if you don’t have room for a large table, you don’t have to go without. Add a chair or two and your coffee corner is ready.
