Trivago’s New Global Campus

trivago‘s current headquarters in Düsseldorf are starting to fall short of the company’s capacity needs. With growth of 222% since 2012, trivago’s multinational team of 950 people needs more and more space to expand, which is why the company is preparing its new premises, to which it will officially move in 2018.

Starting from an initial investment of less than $1 million, trivago has grown organically over the last nine years, reaching a turnover of around $500 million (2015) and more than $4 billion in market revenue. As the company continues to grow by more than 58 percent a year, the move to the new state-of-the-art premises is not just a necessity; for the team, it is only the beginning of what is to come.

The curved six-storey building, which will be able to house 2,000 people, has been designed by SOP architekten. It will offer 26,000 sq. m of open, easily accessible space, with the potential to expand further to accommodate another 1,500 people in a neighbouring building.

As in the current headquarters, the company’s new premises will include themed rooms and shared spaces, and the company will continue to offer free activities, from climbing to Krav Maga and Aerial Yoga. trivago’s emphasis on a healthy lifestyle is another element that will remain untouched, with healthy food options for its employees (fruit, healthy meals, etc.). At the same time, in its efforts to ensure the highest possible quality in the everyday office experience of its employees, the company will continue to put its emphasis on workplace ergonomics in practice, with ergonomic chairs and special desks for those who want to work standing up, among other things. Finally, as is the case now, there will be access to fitness activities and daily classes.

The company’s new premises will be in one of the most central locations in Düsseldorf. Access to the building, which also played a decisive role in the choice of site, will be easy by tram or bicycle, since fewer than 10 percent of the company’s employees come to work by car.
