Under the name “new york by gehry” we are introduced to the first residential building by Frank Gehry. The building, which stands in Manhattan on the site of the former “beekman tower”, is the tallest residential tower in the entire Western Hemisphere.

At more than 250 metres tall, with 76 floors and 903 apartments, it breaks out of the “compartments” of classical architecture and conventional design, a tower that rises above the rooftops of the densely built city and touches the sky.

The stainless steel that clads it takes on undulating forms, creating tension on the exterior, while the reflections of light during the day lead to successive “transformations”.

Through the illusory use of materials and forms, Gehry imposes a sense of continuous movement, creating the illusion of a constant play with the air.

The undulating forms are just as pronounced inside, however: the apartments are framed by curved walls, and the windows stretch out towards the horizon.
