If your space isn’t suited to a wooden fence or divider, you can use plants and shrubs as ‘visual barriers’, creating a surrounding space that feels more ‘natural’ and, above all, relaxing!
Tall, dense shrubs are an ideal way to enclose your yard without needing a fence, setting your personal space apart.
If you have a smaller garden or terrace, study the space carefully and decide on the height of cover you want. For example, if you mainly use the space for sitting, you won’t need large or dense plants. If, however, you want to screen a terrace on the second floor of a house, we would suggest planting taller evergreen trees, since deciduous ones lose their leaves in winter.

Climbing plants such as ivy, which you can plant next to a trellis or a pergola, are another simple option. This solution is ideal if you want to create a thin, lightly screening surface.
Finally, you can simply set out hanging pots with dense plants, or hang containers at different heights and plant flowers that will gain height as they grow. Both solutions will make your garden or terrace look lusher, while giving you the seclusion you want from your neighbors.
