We found it described as “the place” to stay in Berlin! And the photographs of the Michelberger Hotel and its surroundings fully justify that reputation.
You know there is something different about this hotel from the first glance, when you see the words written in large letters at the entrance: “I don’t wanna wake you up but I really wanna show u something”!
You sense it as soon as you visit the website at www.michelbergerhotel.com. There, the “Michelberger Intergalactic Explorers”, the hotel’s team, invite you to the first hotel in space… as they call the Michelberger Hotel.

The space brims with the style and vibe of the city of Berlin: it is the very definition of a hip, happening place.
It has 119 rooms, housed in a former factory building. There you will find a mix of guests from all over the world… from Austrian carpenters, Swedish models, English rock stars, Japanese businessmen and German rally drivers… to American tourists.

The décor is dominated by an industrial style, with grey floors, columns and walls. The industrial feel is further underlined by the black metal luminaires and spotlights hanging from tracks in the hotel’s communal areas.
Attention is also drawn to the pendant lights made from magazine photographs, which “warm up” the space and give it its character.
The furniture has clean, simple lines: plain, low-profile sofas and metal wire bookcases, which allow the books to act as visual elements of the space.

The pared-back look continues with wooden benches, chairs and stools with metal legs.
Of particular interest are the large tables in the restaurant, which invite, and even challenge, guests to join together as one party and get to know other travellers.

In the rooms, it is the walls, clad in books, that make the strongest impression, while the pendant lights that hang low into the space also play a significant part in the décor.
