Mama Shelter Hotel by Philippe Starck

A distinctive hotel in Marseille that, according to designer Philippe Starck, embraces new social values such as discipline, honesty, intelligence and humour.

Mama Shelter Hotel by Philippe Starck

After Paris, Mama Shelter Marseille is the chain’s second hotel in France. It has 127 rooms ranging from 15 to 45 square metres, spread over six floors. There are five room categories, each with a different design and colour scheme, with prices starting at €69 a night.

Philippe Starck describes the original idea behind the concept as “the ‘jeans’ of hotels, which embraces new social values such as discipline, honesty, intelligence and humour. Beautiful projects are not created without a strong reason. There has to be a human reason, a social reason, or a reason of love… in other words, a vision. So we cannot separate Mama Shelter from its genesis, which came from the simple application of a vision and a story. A human story, a meeting, family ties, a deep friendship, people who love one another. That is the starting point for everything.”

Philippe Starck’s theory is reflected in the design of the hotel, which creates a distinctive, warm space in a way that, as his track record has shown us, only he knows how. The Mama Shelter chain continues to expand with equally appealing hotels in Lyon, Los Angeles and Istanbul.
