On 27 January, the first Industrial Museum of Athens, the building that houses “Technopolis”, will be inaugurated.
The gasworks was founded in 1857. It was the first power-generation plant in Greece and met the capital’s need for public lighting. In 1938 it became a municipal enterprise, and it continued to supply the city with lighting and energy until 1984, when it closed for good.
As part of his collaboration with the Museum, industrial designer Yiannis Ghikas has designed the “Candlehandle” candleholder exclusively for the Museum’s design shop.
“Candlehandle” will be produced by the Greek company Convex and will be presented for the first time at the Museum’s official inauguration.
