In June 2011, the Stockholm-based design studio Note created the new concept store of the Johan & Nyström chain in an old warehouse in Helsinki.
The interior design preserves the character and history of the building and is dominated by stone walls and timber beams. The quiet colour palette is enlivened by the choice of furniture and light fittings, which evoke the faraway places the coffee comes from. Among the furniture, we also find the much-loved Acapulco armchairs!
The bar counters are brighter and white, a touch of Scandinavian design that contrasts with the space. They are placed freely, like islands across the large expanse of the floor. Their circular shape was chosen deliberately so that they never meet the walls of the building at any point.
