Cielito Querido Café in Mexico

A Mexican café inspired by timeless Latin design.

Cielito Querido Café in Mexico

The design of Café CIELITO ® draws on Latin American history: the toys, the vivid colors, the language of symbolism and the illustrated graphics of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The café was designed by the Mexican studio Esrawe in collaboration with Ignacio Cadena, who have created a wonderful, nostalgic interior full of contrasts and with a distinctive character.

Pretty pinks and blues, distinctive fabrics applied to the seating, and bold typographic elements on the walls, the ceiling and the decorative objects come together to create a familiar, warm environment.

Its name has its roots in Mexican music, specifically in the well-known Mexican song “Cielito Lindo”, written in 1882 by the Mexican composer Quirino Mendoza y Cortéz. The song includes the phrase “México Lindo y Querido”, which translates as “beloved and beautiful Mexico”.

CIELITO ® “rescues” the aesthetic values of Latin American culture and reinvents them in a new retro style that blends graphic elements from the colonial era, both Spanish and French, with modern elements of 1950s Latin America, such as those of the large department stores, as well as of the markets and the tiny corner shops (tienditas).

All these elements are incorporated discreetly, producing a contemporary result with a Latin character that nevertheless retains an aesthetic more established across the world.
