A small, unremarkable part of a home, such as a corridor or hallway, can easily be turned into a focal point with personality and style.
Simply by painting the walls with geometric patterns, you will instantly show off the space and the furniture in it.
The result may look like wallpaper, but it is certainly cheaper, and you can easily do it yourself without professional help.
One such concept, which we found on designspongeonline.com, cost just €43 and took 5 hours to complete!
Materials you will need:
acrylic paint in two shades of your choice (in the example below, the wall is beige and the pattern was painted in brown and white),
a paint roller and tray,
a brush and blue painter’s tape.
Method:
1. The most important part is marking out the pattern on the wall. Because the design needs to be symmetrical to look good, mark the centre of the wall and stick a strip of blue tape on it vertically.

Do the same in each of the two sections the first strip has created: that is, place a vertical strip of tape down the middle of each one.
Finally, stick two more strips at the edges of the wall. You now have 5 vertical strips in total: the central one, plus four others, two on the left and two on the right.
Next, we need to create the diagonals shown in the adjacent image. To do this, mark points on the tape every 22 cm up its height, and join them with diagonal strips of tape. This will give a perfectly symmetrical result.
You can adapt the design and the scale of the pattern to the size of your space and the result you want.
2. Now for the easier part: thin the acrylic paint with water and paint the sections of the pattern outlined by the blue tape, working from top to bottom.
Leave one strip empty each time; it will be painted in the second colour you have chosen. In general, make sure your brushstrokes follow the same direction as the diagonal stripes.

3. Once you have finished the first colour, move on to the second colour of the pattern, again painting from top to bottom.
4. When the paint is completely dry, carefully remove the blue tape and admire the result, which will be truly impressive!
