If you, too, are looking for the right spot at home to keep your potatoes, onions, vegetables and lemons outside the fridge, within easy reach of the kitchen counter, then this DIY project is sure to make it onto your “to do list”.
Its creator, Pam Dana of overthebigmoon.com, inspires us to build our own little “greengrocer’s” that doesn’t take up much space and can easily be placed next to the kitchen counter, so we can “shop” for our vegetables whenever we need them. It is a wooden construction that is low in cost and easy to build. This version is 45 cm wide, 22.5 cm deep and 81 cm high. Of course, you can adapt the same idea to the exact dimensions of your own counter.
1. First, make the 3 wooden boxes by cutting the wood to the right dimensions and joining the pieces with nails.

2. Cut the side pieces that will support the structure to the height you want, based on the height of the boxes.
3. Test what tilt you want for the boxes and mark the support pieces. Pam chose 30 degrees. On that basis, she cut a 30-degree angle into the top of the two side support boards so that they would line up with the outline of the top box.

4. For the base, she used 2 additional pieces of wood, which you will need to cut at a 45-degree angle.

4. Nail the side support pieces to the wooden bases.
5. You can now go ahead and attach the top box to the side support pieces. Use at least 2 screws on each side.

6. Continue with the bottom box, positioning it about 1.5 cm from the base.

7. Once the structure is stable, add the middle box in the centre.
8. Sand the whole piece with sandpaper and, if you wish, paint it in a colour of your choice.

All done!
PS. If you don’t have a nail gun, take care when hammering in the nails so you don’t split the wood.
