The White and Blue of the Sea…

Summer is in the air, and what could be more refreshing than giving your home a nautical touch?

The White and Blue of the Sea…

Whether it’s the interior of your island home or your terrace furniture, the strong contrast of white and blue, combined with natural materials such as wood, raw metal and linen fabrics, will give your space a summery feel and bring the sea to mind!

Besides the “nautical-themed” decorative objects, cushions and fabrics available in the shops, you can be original with pieces you make yourself from natural materials. We suggest a wall decoration made from nautical rope – you will find instructions on how to make it here.

At this time of year the shops are overflowing with a summery mood in the form of stripes in white and blue contrasts. By following a few basic decorating tips, you can quickly give your space a “nautical theme” and welcome summer with a fresh spirit.

Focus on a simple colour palette, introducing navy blue against white and combining it with pastel shades of khaki and beige. Be bold and add a few touches of red in some corners of your home.

Choose furniture and objects made of raw natural materials, with an aged finish, or even authentic antique pieces. Combine wicker chairs with antique wooden furniture, metal objects and lanterns for your terrace, rugs made of natural fibres such as sisal, straw matting and bamboo items.

Decorative objects such as wooden boats, and shells and pebbles you’ve collected from the beach are welcome, but be careful not to overdo it! On the other hand, you can safely add plenty of white and blue decorative cushions for an instant result.

Finally, when we think “nautical theme”, our minds immediately go to stripes! So don’t leave them out. Wide or thin, stripes will create a strong contrast in your space and the ultimate nautical look!
