The Luxury of Monochrome…

A couple of designers, Sharon, a fashion designer, and Chris, a builder, renovated their New York apartment with one guiding principle: to create a space with a personal style that would also have good resale prospects.

The design placed particular emphasis on detail, on the choice of durable materials, and on touches of luxury scattered throughout the space.

When the couple bought the apartment, it was simply one open space, a large black box.

Wanting to create a warm atmosphere in their home, they divided the space into rooms with walls and partitions, keeping the rooms comfortable and open to one another.

The partitions are also designed to meet the need for storage, in the form of bookcases or built-in wardrobes.

Beyond the careful architectural planning, what makes the apartment stand out is its harmony, thanks to the monochrome scheme Sharon chose.

All the walls in the apartment are painted the same shade of light grey, while the main furniture and decorative elements are also in various shades of light and dark grey.

The renovation took almost a year, and many of the materials used came from other jobs Chris had worked on as a builder.

The space is comfortable and clear in its design, with no excess in its architectural or decorative elements.

It is a space of enjoyable “luxury”, free of any show or display.

In other words, exactly what you need to enjoy your own personal space after a tiring day…
