On Tiffany Hankens‘s blog we came across a very practical idea for creating a distinctive serving platter for your food from pieces of granite.
Tiffany is an interior designer. The idea came to her when she picked up some granite samples for a client, to see them in the space and decide what to recommend. When the project was finished she was left with the samples and tried to think of ways to put them to use. She concluded that, at minimal cost – just some glue and 4 rubber feet – they could be turned into valuable accessories for her kitchen.

So if a flat piece of granite or marble happens to fall into your hands (!), you can put it to good use by making an original platter, a display stand, or a cutting surface for the many different foods in your kitchen.
All you need to do is glue plastic or rubber protective feet, of the kind used for furniture, to the underside; you will easily find them in craft shops. And if you happen to know a marble mason who can cut it to the exact shape you want and make it more elegant, so much the better!
