Renovation of a Home in Gyzi

Past and present in perfect balance, in a creative renovation by the construction company Buildwise d&c.

Renovation of a Home in Gyzi

Out of respect for this 1935 house in the heart of Athens’ Gyzi neighbourhood, the construction company Buildwise d&c redesigned and renovated all of its spaces, providing modern comforts, freshness and the understated luxury that reflects the urban lifestyle of its owners.

Built of brick, the house had small rooms whose layout did not allow the bedrooms to be separated from the living room, and aesthetically they made for a gloomy home with no character. Access to the back yard was difficult and its layout was cramped, so the owners did not use it.

The Buildwise d&c team redesigned the spaces with the aim of separating the bedrooms on the upper floor and creating open, unified spaces on the lower one, in order to improve the look of the house, make it more functional for everyday life and provide easy access to the yard.

The wall that separated the living room from the bedroom on the ground floor was “removed”, creating a new, spacious open-plan living and dining room that gives the space a fresh, modern feel and more light.

Once the space had been opened up, the arches were turned into a modern entrance lobby with special lighting. The front door and the surrounding elements were restored in a way that recalls the old house.

For the ground-floor WC, ceramic fixtures with a simple, minimal design were chosen.

The old bedroom with a window onto the yard has been transformed into an ultra-modern kitchen with a glazed door, giving easy daily access to the wonderful yard.

The wonderful yard has been redesigned to offer more space and a unique sense of calm and relaxation. A small “oasis” in the centre of Athens.
