Photographs in Glass Jars

An original way to display photographs that you can make yourself.

Photographs in Glass Jars

If you love photographic keepsakes and like to work them into the décor of your own space, you will find this alternative way of displaying them interesting: not in the usual frames, but inside glass containers such as jars and bottles.

You can recycle glass jars from jam, sauces and the like, turning them into attractive decorative pieces to arrange on shelves, on your mantelpiece or in your bookcases.

What you will need:

• A collection of bottles or glass jars in different shapes and sizes,
• A few of your favourite photographs,
• Scissors/a cutter,
• A ruler.

How to make it:

Remove the labels from the containers.

• Measure the container, specifically its height from the base to the point where the curve begins. This is essentially the area where the photograph will sit.

Using the ruler, a pencil and a knife, cut the photograph to the height you measured in the previous step.

• Roll the photograph up loosely with the image facing outwards, and place it in the jar or container the way you want it to appear. For example, if you put it in a bottle, it should go in the normal way up, whereas if you want to put it in a small jar, you will need to insert it upside down, because the jar will then be turned over. You may need to adjust its position with your fingers so that it settles properly inside the glass containers.

You’re done!

Tip: To make the display more interesting, use containers of different shapes and heights.
