Nautical Rope Wall Decoration

Summer is here, and with it the "nautical" theme for decorating our homes.

Nautical Rope Wall Decoration

Combine white and blue stripes or solid-colour fabrics, and match them with objects made from natural materials to bring out the best in your space. We suggest you let your imagination run free and make a wall decoration from nautical rope.

For this DIY project, use sisal nautical rope, a very durable rope made from the fibres of the agave plant, which is easy to find in the shops. By coiling the rope, you can make spirals and shapes in various combinations for the wall decoration and beyond. Use the same technique to make coasters, placemats, a doormat and anything else you can imagine!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

– sisal nautical rope
– scissors
– silicone glue gun
– cardboard (to use as a work surface while gluing)

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Start by winding the rope into a spiral as tightly as you can, adding a little glue at intervals. Make spiral circles in various sizes, and try some more unusual designs as well. As you glue, try to apply the glue to the underside of the rope so that any excess stays on the “back”.

2. Once you have prepared all the pieces, you can start gluing them together to create larger shapes. You can add even more variety to your design by trying to coil the rope around a few clustered spirals.

3. When you have finished the spirals, lay out the pieces and settle on the size and shape you want for your composition. Glue all the pieces together so that the whole thing can be lifted as a single piece.

4. Use small nails to hang your decoration on the wall.
