An indoor staircase inevitably takes up a significant part of the room in which it is placed, leaving an awkward void beneath it and posing a challenge: how can that space be put to use? First of all there is the practical question, since making the most of every space is a major concern in modern homes, but there is also the matter of decoration.
We have gathered a few ideas for you to consider when designing your space, all concerning how to use the area created beneath an indoor staircase. Some of them need to have been planned for in the original design of the house; others can be put in place at any time, with alterations and the help of specialists, whenever you decide to do so.
Design the kitchen and its cupboards under the staircase

Create a small home office under the stairs

Use the space for a built-in wall bookcase

Create storage space

• Create a welcoming reading nook

Place a bed so that it makes use of the layout of the staircase

Use the space to build a small guest WC

• Build a small bar or a spot for your TV and sound systems, and, in general, think creatively and practically about how to work the area under the staircase into the overall décor of the space…
