How to Make Your Bedroom Look Bigger with Mirrors

In most new buildings, and especially in apartments, bedrooms get a rather small share of the floor area. In quite a few cases the layout allows for just enough space to fit the bed, the standard built-in wardrobe and, at a push, a few other essential small pieces of furniture.

Since we all need bedside tables, a chest of drawers, a shelf – extra storage in general – and a few decorative touches, the result is that we either cram the room full and create a busy feel, or simply cannot furnish the room the way we would like.

For this reason, it makes sense to turn to practical decorating solutions to give the room the “visual breathing space” we want. Here, a large mirror is a foolproof way of creating the optical illusion of a bigger room.

Cover built-in wardrobes with mirrors

The most classic application of this trick is to cover the outer surface of a large built-in wardrobe with mirror.

Place mirrors at the head of the bed or on the walls of the room

Alternatively, you can hang a large mirror on a wall of the room, or simply lean it against one, and achieve a similar result.

In this case, the shape of the mirror and the type of frame around it will be another key element of the style you want to give the room.

Tip 1: A clever way to use a mirror to make the room look bigger is to position it so that it reflects the window or balcony door. This lets you increase the amount of natural light in the room, which is just as important in making it look larger and less “cramped”!

Tip 2: The mirror from an old dressing table can be used as a headboard, lending a romantic or vintage touch to its reflection!

Tip 3: A mirrored screen will prove doubly practical, hiding any untidy corners of the room while also creating a sense of depth.
