DIY Side Table from a Wooden Cable Spool

A clever way to make your own side table from an old cable spool.

DIY Side Table from a Wooden Cable Spool

Wooden cable spools can be given a new lease of life and make a lovely decorative feature in our space. This time we’ll look at how to turn one into a side table with room for our books.

Materials

– a small wooden cable spool

– 2 wooden broomsticks

– four screw-in casters

– paint in the colour of your choice

Step 1

First, sand the spool with sandpaper to get a smooth surface that we can then work on.

Step 2

Using a drill, make holes in the base and in the top of the spool. The number of holes depends on the size of your spool.

Step 3

Cut the broomsticks to the height between the 2 surfaces and push them through the holes to create the dividers.

If you like, you can then paint the table, decorate it using the decoupage technique, or fit casters to its base.
