Decorative Mirror Made with Rulers

A clever way to decorate a corner of your home is to pair a small sideboard or side table with a striking mirror. What you may not know is that you can make that “striking” mirror yourself!

On madebystephie.blogspot.com, Stephie shares a lovely idea for creating an original mirror that works as a decorative piece without costing much. As she points out, the materials came to no more than €7.

Stephie glued wooden skewers and rulers onto a plain, store-bought round mirror, forming a sunburst as a frame, and transformed the mirror into a modern decorative piece with real character. If you want to add a personal touch, follow her suggestion and simply spray-paint the skewers in colours that suit your space.

This particular idea is best taken as a source of inspiration, since in practice each of us can come up with many other similar creative variations. The logic is simple:

– Buy a round or square mirror, in the size you want and whatever suits you best, from a glazier’s or a department store.

– Choose a material that suits the space where you want to place it. Play with branches, wire, laminated clippings from newspapers and magazines – the ideas are endless, as long as you let your imagination run free and “see” beyond the usual uses of the materials around you.

– Create a “frame”, a composition around the mirror, and glue or tie it to the mirror’s surface. Here, of course, we can’t give you specific instructions, as the method depends on the materials you use.
