For obsessive collectors of small objects, and for anyone looking for an original way to decorate their walls, a decorative display box frame is the answer!
Make use of old wooden boxes you have at home, and add decorative moulded frames to create a display case for your ornaments. Choose boxes in whatever size and depth you like, and adapt the project to the dimensions of your space and the size of the items you want to show.
The example we found on designspongeonline gives instructions for turning an old wooden CD box into a decorative display box frame.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
an old wooden CD box (or any other wooden box)
a decorative moulded frame (the same size as the box, or you can buy framing by the metre from a carpenter’s workshop)
a small wood saw
a mitre box for cutting wood at 45 degrees
wood glue
wood paint or varnish
a tape measure
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Using the tape measure, measure the inside dimensions of the opening of your box.

2. Using the mitre box, saw one end of the decorative moulding at a 45-degree angle. Working from the inside dimensions of the box that you have just measured, continue by cutting four pieces of moulding with the same angle, to form the four sides of the frame.
3. Lay the pieces of moulding on a flat surface. Spread wood glue on the mitred ends and glue the four pieces together to form the frame. Tape the four corner joints and leave the glue to dry thoroughly for at least 15-20 minutes.
4. At this point, you can optionally use pieces of wallpaper to decorate the inside of your box.

5. Once you are sure the glue on your decorative frame has dried well, you can paint it or simply varnish it, depending on the result you want. Wait for the paint or varnish to dry, then glue the frame to your wooden box. Spread a thin layer of wood glue around the rim of the box opening and on the inner side of the back of the frame, that is, where the two will be joined. Press lightly and use masking tape to hold the assembly firmly in place while the glue dries. Using a damp cloth, wipe away any glue residue from the box. Allow 15-30 minutes for the wood glue to dry, although it takes 24 hours for your piece to set properly.
6. If the CD box does not already have hanging holes, use a drill to make four holes in the back of the box. Your decorative display box frame is ready to hang!
