Decorating with Serving Trays

How to make decorative trays "serve" up style in your space.

Decorating with Serving Trays

Beyond their practical value, serving trays can also work as decorative objects, creating a distinctive, chic look.

Whether porcelain, metal, plastic or wood, any tray can help create a sense of order and organization, and show off small objects and accessories that might have looked unremarkable if displayed any other way.

As decorative elements, they can be found in every room of the house: from the living room, dining room and kitchen to the bathroom and bedroom.

Let’s look at some applications and ideas that make a compelling case for decorative trays in the modern home!

In the kitchen

Group everyday items (containers of sugar, coffee or other foods, napkin holders, salt and pepper shakers and so on) on an attractive decorative tray and place it on the kitchen counter or the table.

In the bathroom

Arrange decorative objects, glass jars of cotton balls or cotton swabs, shampoos and cosmetics on a lovely tray, and use it to dress up the top of the washing machine or your bathroom vanity.

In the bedroom

Turn your perfume bottles, cosmetics or jewelry into decorative features by placing them on a lovely tray. Set it on your chest of drawers or dressing table, and you will have everything within easy reach as well as an elegant decorative touch for your bedroom.

Another idea you could try is to put a decorative tray on your nightstand with a few books and a small vase, creating a sense of warmth and intimacy in the room.

In your living room, sitting area or dining room

It is remarkable how much more interesting you can make the look of your sitting area simply by placing a lovely decorative tray on the coffee table, with a few books, one or more vases, some candles or other small decorative objects (picture frames, candlesticks, knickknacks and so on).

A decorative tray can be used in the same way on your dining table.

Another popular idea is to turn your sideboard into a mini bar by placing a few bottles of spirits and a handful of glasses on a tray!

Tip!
Try using decorative trays as wall decorations too!
