Curtains do more than shield a space from prying eyes and light. They also play a very important role in its decor, adding colour and style and shaping the atmosphere.
It follows that the choice of curtain rod for each room carries equal weight. Even if we don’t have much money to spend on one, we can think creatively and come up with original solutions. One such example is the chain curtain rod DIY project we have presented in the past.
If, however, you want a more “natural” look and feel for your room, you can use a natural tree branch as a curtain rod.
There is, of course, a downside to this solution:
– you won’t be able to slide the curtains along it, at least not easily: in other words, it is more decorative than functional,
– it is suitable only for curtains that tie onto the rod with loops (although you could also sew them in a way that suits the dimensions of the branch).
How to make it:
1. Find a branch that is about 20-30 cm longer than the width of the window or balcony door.
2. Cut off the side shoots, but don’t necessarily sand the surface completely smooth, so that it keeps its natural character and feel. If, on the other hand, you want to be able to close the curtains more easily without wearing out the fabric, you will probably have to sacrifice the natural bumps of the wood.
3. If you wish, paint it in the colour of your choice.
4. Use brackets to fix the branch to the wall.
5. Thread the curtain onto the branch, without using rings.
You’re done!
We have also gathered a few examples so you can see how beautiful the result is:
