American illustrator Joel Holland, who is based in Brooklyn, New York, has lived and worked for the past 10 years in an apartment full of visible “decorating touches” that reflect the personal taste and imagination of its owner.
Bold contrasts of materials and colors, and modern and vintage objects and furniture, come together in an apartment that works equally well as a home and as a workspace.

Many of the objects are finds that Joel Holland picked up at flea markets and antiques fairs, which he then reworked himself and adapted to his space.
A bust he discovered in the trash stands on an antique side table, while the walls hold framed pieces from his collection of works by friends, along with two vintage Pantone Gradient Prints.

The dining room serves a dual purpose, doubling as Joel‘s workbench. The table is made of reclaimed wood, and the chairs around it are also finds that Joel picked up off the street.

A tour of the apartment is full of surprises! You keep coming across quirky knick-knacks and pieces of furniture that perfectly capture the owner’s cheerful character.
Joel Holland’s love of books is just as evident. They are everywhere in the apartment, whether gathered in a makeshift bookcase or stacked as decorative elements.

Part of the wall decoration consists of illustrations and samples of Joel‘s own work, which are continually rotated.
The strong color contrasts, both in his artwork and in the rich shades chosen for the walls, turn an otherwise simple space into a pleasant place to live and work.
