The studio of Fernando Tapia and Monica Andina has designed a distinctive loft in Madrid which, from the very first glance, gives a sense of calm, simplicity and warmth.
The colour palette of whites and greys played a major part in achieving the relaxed mood of the space. Within this harmonious setting, one notices the selective use of vintage furniture and decorative pieces, and is drawn to the bolder elements that adorn the walls: from the decorative ant sculptures to the picture of Salvador Dali.

The use of space is highly functional. The ground floor houses the living room, kitchen and dining area, while the upper level, a mezzanine, holds the bedroom and the study in a single open space.
Upstairs, the desk is positioned so that it looks over the floor below, creating an “illusion” of spaciousness, while the person sitting at it has no line of sight to the bedroom. The wardrobes are open and free-standing, so as to avoid bulky pieces that would limit the sense of freedom the space conveys. Instead of bedside tables, trunks in strong colours have been used.
The choice of rugs is also quite distinctive and plays an equally important role in creating this “cozy” feel.
