The best thing about DIY projects is the satisfaction of making something new and functional out of objects that seem useless at first glance.
Looking at such “useless” objects with a smarter, more practical eye, Ashley presents on designspongeonline.com a lovely idea for a wall decoration with three vases, which she uses to display seasonal flowers and give the room a warm, vintage feel.
The materials Ashley uses are: a piece of wood cut from a tree trunk, sandpaper to smooth its surface, three clamps whose size depends on the diameter of the cup that will serve as the base (you can find them at a plumbing supply shop), a few small nails, three cups or tin cans from preserves, and finally three bottles, preferably clear ones, which play the role of the vases in this project.

The trunk section is the base of the piece. If you like, you can paint one side of the wood, although you will need to get some wood paint. Either way, take care not to paint the bark, for a better-looking result.
Next, nail the clamps onto the wood and tighten the cups into them, as shown in the photos. Add the bottles (Ashley used glass ketchup bottles) and your piece is essentially ready! Decorate it with seasonal flowers or dried blooms and hang it on the wall!

Starting from this idea, you can come up with alternative uses for it. All you need to do is “play” creatively with what you can put in the 3 holders.
For example, if you intend it for the kitchen, you could use it to “organise” your cooking utensils instead of holding glass containers. Or you could brighten up your desk by using it for pens and many other useful items. If you think even more freely, why not hang a notepad from an extra nail, or add several more nails and use the piece in your entrance hall as a reminder board and key holder?
Whatever you choose, every time you look at it, the knowledge that you made it with your own two hands will fill you with satisfaction!
