THE SEARCH

An art intervention by the artist Dimitris Antonakos, part of the events of Aeschylia, the cultural festival of the city of Eleusis.

THE SEARCH

THE SEARCH is a neon intervention at around thirty points of this evocative old industrial site. Continuing his decades-long work in industrial settings, the artist has united the structures and spaces of the Olive Oil Mill into a single aesthetic and philosophical whole.

“I hope,” the artist says, “that here every viewer can search for, and experience in their own way, some of the complex ideas I have found in my life in art and have expressed here as best I could.”

Comment by the artist: Each of us lives only once. It is important to believe in yourself, to make decisions, and to know that no one lives alone and no one works alone. It is important to devote yourself to the work, the work that only you can do, and, as Cavafy says, to “do it as well as you can”.

All I want in my life and in my art is to find the simplest means to speak about more complex things. I believe there is a deep and natural bond between geometry and space.

This connection is the source of all my ideas, of all my work. My hope is that my art will touch the inner life of human beings. In the difficult times we are going through, and in good times too, I hope my work will remind people of their great potential in this life, an energy that exists within and drives each one of us.
