A different kind of art space has opened at 16 Irakleitou Street in Kolonaki, under the slogan “Let’s liberate art”!
It is the art space “Terre d’ artistes“, whose vision is “…unique, authentic, modern paintings for everyone…”.
“Terre D’ Artistes” works exclusively with graduates of the School of Fine Arts, and hosts more than 1,000 unique, original works.
On Friday 13/5/2011 we had the chance to visit Terre d’ artistes, where Mr Charis Lemonias, the owner of the space, presented the innovations and the distinctive concept on which this art space has been set up and is run.
The main aim of Mr Lemonias and his associates is for Terre d’ artistes (“land of the artists”) to give a platform to young, talented artists and to “open up” art to the general public, offering people the chance to acquire authentic, unique works at affordable prices.
Terre D’ Artistes also makes smart use of technology, so that the gallery space works as a “table of contents” for the artists’ work. Characteristic pieces by each artist are shown on the walls, while visitors can use touch screens to browse the artist’s entire body of work digitally and, as a second step, if they are interested, see it in person.
It is thus an antidote to the elitist approach to art, and also an answer to our need to find our own “haven in art” beyond copies of well-known works. At Terre d’ artistes we can find authentic, unique works (which are not reproduced) by twenty artists, with prices starting at €76.
In the video, we talk with Mr Lemonias about many interesting subjects: art, the prospects for young artists in Greece, the problems they face, and finally the criteria by which works of art are priced today.
