The acclaimed designer will receive the Designer of the Year Award at Design Miami.

Konstantin Grcic

Every year, during the annual Design Miami fair, the Designer of the Year Award is presented to an internationally acclaimed designer or studio whose work shows unsurpassed, innovative design quality that influences and expands the “boundaries of design”.

German designer Konstantin Grcic has been chosen as this year’s recipient of the Designer of the Year Award.

Over a remarkable and steadily rising career spanning the past twenty years, he has demonstrated both the reach of his work and the richness of his talent.

Based in Munich, he stands out in the design world for his disciplined, architectural approach to industrial design, while pushing and redefining the limits of how materials and products are developed and produced.

In 1991 Konstantin Grcic founded the studio Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID), which takes on everything from furniture and product design to exhibition design and architectural projects.

Grcic‘s products have won a number of awards over the years, and some are on show in museums such as The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.

Throughout his career he has worked with a range of distinguished companies, including Cappellini, Established & Sons, Flos, Iittala, Krups, Moroso and Vitra.

During Design Miami, the work of Konstantin Grcic will be presented in a dedicated room. He has also been commissioned to design the fair’s traditional installation in its outdoor entrance area.

His project, titled Netscape, is a functional, interactive installation of suspended mesh seats, creating a place to stop, talk and rest on the way into and out of the fair.

Design Miami runs from 1 to 5 December 2010.
