You may remember African Cartel, a site that promotes and supports street artists from Africa, which we featured a few months ago.
This time we have tracked down a new site for you, Art Sumo. In a similar effort to create a market for the artistic creations of unrecognised artists from developing countries, it borrows the logic of “deal sites” and offers a different work every day, from a different corner of the planet, at a special price.
Consumers join the Art Sumo Club with their email address and a password and, as on other deal sites, receive a different painting every day from unknown artists in underdeveloped and developing countries, at a special price available exclusively to members. For example, at the end of April, Art Sumo offered 3 paintings, each worth more than $500, for $249.
Explaining its philosophy, Art Sumo says it is the only site that gives its members access to handmade works from around the world at special prices. In this way, it supports and encourages artists who are struggling to survive and to provide for their families.
