African Cartel

A website that showcases and supports street artists from Africa.

African Cartel

by Sydney Nyamutaka

Based in Cape Town, African Cartel aims to help talented South African street artists who struggle to make a living selling their creations on busy streets. It gives them a platform where they can not only sell their work but also share their stories with the world.

www.africancartel.com gives access to a wide variety of handmade pieces, either ready-made or custom-ordered, and visitors to the site can also learn more about the artists, with details about their lives and aspirations.

The works fall into 4 main categories:

• Wire and bead art
•
Robot art
•
Township art

Visitors to the site can also support the artists by providing them with supplies, or suggest new artists who could be included in the initiative.

In the video below you can watch a report on the concept.

African Cartel hopes to secure, through donations, a workspace for the artists it represents so that they can devote themselves to their art.

Visit www.africancartel.com to see the artists’ creations, and take a little time to get to know the artists and acquire their work.

And don’t forget that many of the artists can create a one-of-a-kind piece for you to order, so don’t hesitate to try that option too.
