Suspended Staircase in Wood and Steel

In a loft in Oslo, London studio Haptic has created a minimalist staircase in white-painted steel and wood that plays a dual role: it links the main floor with the attic, while also serving as a discreet divider between the kitchen and the living room.

The original staircase appears to float in mid-air. Its most striking feature is that it preserves sight lines to every element of the space and blends seamlessly into it.

The structure hangs from the ceiling beam and the wall. Slender vertical supports act as balusters. Another interesting touch is the way it ends: the treads stop short of the floor, and a wooden piece of furniture, which serves as both a chest of drawers and a window seat, acts as an additional step connecting the staircase to the floor.
