Fa.B. Bookcase by DEDE

A new approach that goes beyond the logic of any shelving system.

Fa.B. Bookcase by DEDE

The Fa.B. fabric bookcase, which breaks with the logic of conventional shelving systems, is a new way to organise and protect your books and magazines. Fa.B. gives the user storage space that can be renewed at will, as one or more fabric pockets can be added to the wooden frame in a matter of minutes.

Fa.B. is made of birch plywood which, when sourced from sustainably managed forests, poses a lower risk to the environment.

The pockets are made from a recyclable, sturdy, stain-resistant, crease-free fabric. Combined with the minimal use of wood, this means fewer natural resources are consumed, which answers the demands of our times (dematerialization).

Fa.B. is mounted on wheels, so unlike a classic bookcase it can be moved around effortlessly, even when fully loaded, and it can also be used as a room divider. It is foldable, quite literally, so when it is transported in flat-pack form its volume, and with it its energy footprint, is drastically reduced.

Fa.B. was designed by the industrial design team DEDE DextrousDesign, made up of Fouad Asour and Aliki Rovithi. Based in Athens, DEDE have worked together since 2007 and have taken part in the exhibitions DESIGN 2009, DESIGN LAB 2010, 2011% GREEK DESIGN, GREEN DESIGN FESTIVAL 2010, S-M-L-XL HELLENIC DESIGN and DESIGN 2011.

The selection committee of SaloneSatellite, the international exhibition for young designers, chose DEDE to present their work at SaloneSatellite 2010, held in Milan from 14 to 19 April. DEDE believe that innovation, humour and a conceptual approach can make a difference in industrial and product design.

In August 2010 they were awarded the international RED DOT award:design concept 2010 for their THIS SIDE UP table. Their packaging THE HAP PROJECT, a humanitarian aid package, was nominated for the INDEX:Award 2011, an international design award that recognises proposals which improve the quality of human life.
From 23 to 27 April 2011 their work was presented at the DESIGN SHOW of the 109th CANTON FAIR in Guangzhou, China. Their paper bag GET THE HANG OF IT won the Platinum A’ Design award 2010-2011, while their WEDDING STOOL and their 1000cc CERAMIC CARAFE also received awards.
