Curface Composite Board

The English company Re-Worked has created a new material for use in furniture: a distinctive type of board made from recycled plastic and coffee grounds.

The material is Curface, a board-type product whose surface, according to its manufacturer Re-Worked, evokes a combination of chocolate, leather and stone.

It is suitable for interior spaces and is made of durable polystyrene, with a thermoplastic surface. It can be shaped using ordinary woodworking tools. It is water-resistant and needs no varnishing, and scratches can easily be repaired with sandpaper.

The key point, however, is that it is made from 30% recycled ground coffee and used plastic, following the logic shown in the illustration below.

Curface can be made to order in 4 different thicknesses: 5mm, 12mm, 18mm and 25mm.

In addition, drawing on its founders’ design background and its knowledge of the material, Re-Worked designs and offers a range of furniture based on Curface. It also undertakes projects such as the design and fit-out of a café, a building and so on.
