Pan Peninsula

Lighting for two luxury apartment buildings in the Mill Harbour area of London.

Pan Peninsula

Pan Peninsula is a complex of two fifty-storey buildings, each crowned by a striking tower and housing luxury residences.

The lighting design was carried out by Maurice Brill Lighting Design (MBLD), with the aim of showcasing the unique architecture so that the buildings stand out from the other commercial buildings in the area.

The project began in 2005, with the intention of creating a lighting scheme that would highlight the buildings’ appearance at night.

To achieve this, LEDs were installed on the towers to form horizontal and vertical lines, whose intensity rises and falls to catch the eye of passers-by.

Vertical LED strips run the full height of the buildings on every side. The light from the LEDs is reflected in the water of the river, making the spectacle even more striking for passers-by.

Christian Wendel, the lighting designer at MBLD, said that the aim was to render the lighting in three dimensions, so that the result would be visible from every point.

After the successful inauguration in January 2009, MBLD decided to give each day of the week a different colour combination, so that local residents would see new images.
