DIATHLASIS carried out the entire implementation design and installation of the fibre optic system in the ceiling of the listed building, working with the architectural office of Giannis Kizis and Associates and with KION Consulting Engineers – Kostas Chaniotis, who undertook the radical renovation of the historic Pallas.

The stretched optic fibres glow along their entire length, forming self-luminous curved surfaces that conceal the sound and lighting installations behind them, at the request of the architect and the Archaeological Council.

The optic fibres from the Italian manufacturer ELTEC are a high-specification product capable of delivering solutions of a high aesthetic standard. In this project they are glass, side-light fibres with a polycarbonate sheath that withstands high temperatures and thermal contraction and expansion.

The required durability tests were carried out on site by DIATHLASIS technicians during sample trials at an early stage of the project.

In total, 5,000 metres of optic fibre and 100 halogen lamp illuminators were used, the latter installed in easily accessible locations. The fibres are controlled by a central lighting management system.

Diathlasis also worked with KION Consulting Engineers – Kostas Chaniotis, a key contributor to the radical renovation of the Theatre.
