An electronic science and research newsletter on light sources...

Light Source Science & Research

Just days before its first issue, we are announcing the launch of the first electronic science and research newsletter on light sources. It is the initiative of Dr Spyros Kitsinelis (Phasma Solutions) and is supported by research groups from Ehime University in Japan and the University of Toulouse in France.

The initiative is an innovative, pioneering way of keeping informed: until now, researchers and scientists have relied solely on conferences and scientific journals to keep up with the latest developments.

This electronic bulletin, which has not been used so far in any scientific discipline or community and is starting for the first time in the field of light sources, is a new way for scientists and researchers in the same field to communicate, and it aims to save a great deal of time and money.

At its launch, the newsletter has almost 4,000 recipients around the world, and it depends on their contributions: they are asked to set aside a few minutes of their time to send in the titles of their latest publications, patents, books, announcements of meetings and so on. The mailing list has been compiled from a large number of conferences, journals, meetings and other sources. The recipients are mainly scientists, researchers and engineers from many academic institutions and all the major lighting companies.

Those few minutes will result in an electronic archive of the latest developments and news, which will be sent to colleagues in the field, saving them the time, effort and cost that this kind of monitoring would normally require.

The first issue is expected to be sent out on 15 September, and the topics covered will include developments in LEDs, low- and high-pressure discharge lamps, diagnostic methods, new patents, book publications and more.
