Light and Insects

The solution for avoiding unwelcome visitors at night.

Light and Insects

Think of how many times you have dined at an outdoor restaurant this summer and had a serious problem with annoying insects drawn by the light in the surrounding area.

Quite a few, surely…
A lighting consultant from the United States, who wished to remain anonymous, suggests a way to avoid the problem.

Use compact fluorescent lamps in the warmest colour available to light the areas where the restaurant tables are, even directly above the table if possible, and place ordinary incandescent lamps around the perimeter of the area, pointing away from your space.

This way, the insects will be drawn to the incandescent lamps around the edges, leaving the area inside free of them.

Let us know if you experiment with our friend’s solution, but just in case, it’s worth having one of the special devices sold for this purpose on hand as well.
