DIY Wall Light Made from Pallet Wood

Recycle an old pallet to make your own industrial wall light.

DIY Wall Light Made from Pallet Wood

Sebastien from Atelier Dee in Belgium has shared this lovely and easy-to-make idea for how to use pallet wood to build your own wall light.

The materials you will need are:

• a 120x120cm pallet,
• a saw to cut the pallet,
• two angle brackets to fix it to the wall, which you can find in a hardware store,
• a drill, screws and wall plugs for fixing,
• a T5 21W fluorescent lamp with its lampholder and starter system, like the one shown in the photograph (available from an electrical supplies shop),
• wood screws to fix the lampholder to the body of the wall light.

If you already have the pallet, the project should cost no more than €20.

If you don’t know how to connect the wires, we would of course recommend calling an electrician, or asking the shop where you buy the electrical components to wire them up for you, so that all you have to do is screw them onto the inside face of the wood.

The angle brackets should be at the top of the wall light so that you can screw it up easily, with one side screwed to the wood and the other to the wall. It is a good idea to measure the exact positions of the holes beforehand, because on such a long linear fixture the slightest tilt will look bad.

Finally, if you feel like taking the “play” a step further, you can paint the wood in a colour of your choice.
