If you have collected a lot of wire hangers from the dry cleaner’s, this DIY project by Eleanna of the Etsy Greek Street Team is a clever and original way to turn them into a beautiful minimalist light, either a pendant or a floor lamp.
Inspired by a light she saw in a clothing shop in Rome, Eleanna created the light in the photograph, which you can make yourself in 7 simple steps.
What you will need:
• 24 wire hangers (if you don’t have any, you can buy them at the supermarket)
• a pack of plastic cable ties
• a pair of wire cutters
How to make it:

Step 1: Take three of the hangers and form a triangle as shown in the photograph. Pay attention to the orientation of the hangers so that the design comes out symmetrical.

Step 2: Use the plastic ties to fasten the sides of the triangles at the corners and in the centre, as shown in the photograph, and repeat 8 times:

Step 3: You now have 8 identical triangles, which will become the faces of our polyhedron. Take four of the triangles you have made and lay them flat side by side, as shown in the photograph, then tie them together.

Step 4: Lift them so that they form a pyramid with a square base, and tie the last two sides together. You now have one pyramid, and you need to make another with the 4 remaining triangles.

Step 5: You now have two similar pyramids with square bases. Join them at their bases (formed by the sides of the four triangles) to make an octahedron!

Step 6: Your octahedron is ready! All you need to do now is trim the protruding ends of the plastic ties. Of course, if you like them, you can leave them as they are…

Step 7: Your “hanger light” is ready! Hang it from the ceiling or turn it into a floor lamp! You could also cover it with paper or translucent plastic. The final result looks something like this from different angles:
