DIY Candle Lighting Ideas for the Garden

As the temperature rises, we spend more and more evenings in the garden and on the veranda. It is well worth investing a little time in creating a beautiful atmosphere in these spaces, with original candle-lit focal points.

Karin Lidbeck of “your cozy home” has shared several ideas you can use to achieve a romantic, welcoming result!

Hang a wire basket of candles above your table.

You can use rope to hang it from a tree or a pergola (take a little care if it’s windy!). To give the result a more natural, attractive look, and to hold the candles firmly in place, line the base of the basket with moss, which you can buy from any florist.

• Place plain metal buckets in prominent spots around the garden, filled with water, flowers of your choice and floating candles!

• Bring out the surroundings by setting metal trays holding glasses with lit tealights in various places (side tables, walls, low ledges). For an even more natural effect, you can cover the surface of the tray with moss.

Tip! Karin suggests creating an even more romantic and distinctive arrangement by using, instead of low glasses, old glass chandelier pieces in different designs and shapes (you can find them at flea markets and antique shops)!

• Use thick wire to make hangers, and use them to suspend old glass jars holding small tealights at various points in the garden or on the veranda.

To secure these homemade lanterns, all you need are round metal clamps, available from hardware stores, or wire, fastened carefully and firmly around the “necks” of the jars.

Can’t wait for your next veranda or garden party?
