Zaishu is an award-winning piece of flat-pack micro-furniture that can be used as a stool or seat, a side table or even a bedside table.
In reality, though, Zaishu is more than a brand or a collection of products for interior spaces. It stands for a philosophy, and it is as a philosophy that we are sharing it with you, since, the truth is, production has now stopped.
The philosophy of Zaishu studio is that the objects that surround us can be made in an eco-friendly way, with respect for sustainability, without sacrificing design or quality.
Zaishu draws its inspiration from the interlocking wooden beams of Japanese Buddhist temples, as well as from the Japanese respect for natural materials and rationalism in design. When the 5 pieces that make up a Zaishu are laid flat on the floor, their shape recalls the curves and lines of a traditional Japanese kimono.

Every Zaishu is decorated with unique designs by international artists, which makes it a collectible piece. The artwork on its surface is not industrially printed but produced in collaboration with the artists and designers, combining creativity with eco-friendly design.
In fact, over almost 6 years, more than 1,000 artists in 22 countries have worked on Zaishu, adding their own creative touch by painting, printing, gluing and more onto each individual piece of micro-furniture.

It was designed and made in Australia from pine, and either hand-painted or printed using eco-friendly paints and varnishes. Assembling a Zaishu took less than a minute.

Unfortunately, as we mentioned, Zaishu studio has discontinued the pieces in order to focus on new creative projects, which we await with eager anticipation.
Until then, visit Zaishu studio to find out more about its philosophy and to explore the story of Zaishu on its blog.
