The online service Woodcut Maps lets you create an original piece for the walls of your home or office by turning Google Maps images into woodcut artworks.
To get your own piece, you start by typing in the location you want to capture in your “Woodcut Map”. It might be a favourite destination, a place with sentimental or symbolic value, or simply the area where the space that will hold the artwork is located.
You are then shown the Google Maps view of the area and, using a viewfinder tool, you can choose the size and shape of the woodcut you want to make by zooming in or out on the map. The site then converts that information into a geometric woodcut design, made from 3 different types of wood. You can also choose between different frames, the level of detail rendered in the piece, and so on.

Prices range from $165 to $450, depending on the design. By arrangement with the company, you can also create other original items along the same lines, such as sets of placemats.
In this way, you can create your own design object, with a personal touch.
